Our mission

The FLOAT Foundation (For the Love of Assistive Technology Foundation) is a collection of powerful initiatives carried out by Alex Lewis and the Alex Lewis Trust, designed to highlight the colossal cost of Assistive Technology (AT).

In 2013 Alex was told that he would need £4,000,000 of AT to support him in leading an independent life.

He set up FLOAT with the mission to help create a world where AT is accessible and affordable for all individuals.

What is assistive technology?

Otherwise known as AT, the term assistive technology includes any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities.

An extraordinary life devoted to raising awareness and giving hope

Strep A Toxic Shock Syndrome gave Alex Lewis a less than 1% chance of survival. In November 2013 what he thought was a touch of man flu quickly deteriorated. It led to Septicaemia that ravaged his face and caused the loss of all his limbs.

He now devotes his extraordinary life to raising awareness of the prohibitive cost of AT and giving hope to those affected.
