The FLOAT Foundation

The FLOAT Foundation (For the Love of Assistive Technology) is a charitable organisation led by Alex Lewis, dedicated to revolutionising the world of assistive technology (AT). By spearheading innovative initiatives, research projects, and charitable challenges, The FLOAT Foundation strives to make AT more affordable and accessible.

Our vision is a future where AT is available to everyone who needs it, regardless of age, ability, or financial circumstances. Whether through disability, aging, or facing temporary challenges, we want to break down barriers and empower individuals to lead independent lives. Join us in our mission to make a difference.

Our mission

The FLOAT Foundation (For the Love of Assistive Technology Foundation) is a collection of powerful initiatives carried out by Alex Lewis and the Alex Lewis Trust, designed to highlight the colossal cost of Assistive Technology (AT).

In 2013 Alex was told that he would need £4,000,000 of AT to support him in leading an independent life.

He set up FLOAT with the mission to help create a world where AT is accessible and affordable for all individuals.

What is assistive technology?

Otherwise known as AT, the term assistive technology includes any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities.

An extraordinary life devoted to raising awareness and giving hope

In November 2013, Alex Lewis’s life changed dramatically. A severe case of septicemia left him fighting for survival with a mere 3% chance.

Over the next seven months, he lost all four limbs and part of his face and mouth. Despite this adversity, Alex remains dedicated to helping others. The FLOAT Foundation, born from over a decade of experience in the assistive technology (AT) field, aims to create a world where everyone, regardless of ability, can live independently and fully participate in society.
