More about the project...
WILD Wheelchairs is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing affordable wheelchairs to individuals with mobility challenges in Ethiopia. By establishing a manufacturing facility in Bahir Dar, we are empowering local communities and ensuring sustainable access to essential mobility aids. The FLOAT Foundation is proud to support this project in partnership with Southampton University. Together, we're working to develop innovative solutions and provide ongoing support to individuals with disabilities, particularly those affected by the ongoing conflict in the Northern Territories.
With the support of the Murray Parish Trust and Experience Hampshire, we successfully climbed Ras Dashen and established a wheelchair manufacturing facility in Bahir Dar.
This journey was documented in the award-winning film, Alex Lewis Mountain. The film follows Alex Lewis and Emebet Ale Dries as they conquer Ethiopia's highest peak using a custom-built solar handcycle.
